10 New Orleans Events For Black Professionals This Week

There’s always something to do in Nola! Check out my curated event list for Black professionals in New Orleans this week.

1. THE MONDAY GET RIGHT
Monday, February 19, 2018, 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The goal of The Monday Get Right from creator DJ Chinua is for teachers (he’s an educator himself) and other NOLA professionals to have an intentional space for camaraderie and recuperation. You’ve spent all day working hard trying to get over the Monday blues, come spend a few hours every third Monday setting the tone for your own personal happiness and the rest of the work week by celebrating yourself and your fellow professionals. Learn more HERE.

2. BLACK MASKING INDIAN PANEL 
Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. 
Attend a panel discussion and performance featuring the Prospect.4 “Rooted in Resistance, Remembrance, Ritual, Resilience: Black Masking Indian” installation at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. The panel participants are P.4 artist and retired Big Chief of the Yellow Pocahontas, Darryl Montana, Sabrina Mays Montana, writer Kalamu Ya Salaam, Xavier University professor and artist Ron Bechet, photographers Chandra McCormick and Keith Calhoun, and exhibition designer Jenny Fazande. 3. THE SPONTANEOUS SHOW WITH YOUNG FUNNY
Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Bar Redux and We Are Young Funny Present The Spontaneous Show. We are Young Funny is a NOLA based comedy troupe, founded by the late Jon Reaux. The cast includes Kyle Smith, Geneva Joy, Byron Broussard, Kamari Stevens, DC PauL, Laycee-Joyce Taylor, Parker Barnes, Johnnie Lipscomb, Paul Joseph, B Dub Get Paid, and Billy Healy. 4. COOLNASTY WEEKLY JAM
Wednesday, February 21, 2018, 9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
The Jam w/CoolNasty takes place EVERY Wednesday night at NOJM. If you are an aspiring musician, poet, comedian, etc. this is the event for you! 5. THE COLOR PURPLE MUSICAL
Thursday, February 22, 2018, 7:30 p.m. 
You’ve seen the movie hundreds of time (and if you haven’t you need to have your Black Card revoked). Now you can watch it live in the musical form at the Saenger Theatre in NOLA. See your favorite film in a different form and enjoy a different type of night event. Learn more HERE.

6. MONOPOLI PROJECTS PRESENTS SOUNDBYTES
Thursday, February 22, 2018, 9:07 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Grammy-nominated PJ Morton hosts SOUNDBYTES, a monthly jam session featuring an unending rotating cast of friends and strangers, banding together to make music for the night. Monopoli Projects creates this safe space for musicians, singers, and other artists to feel free to perform among their peers once a month inside Three Keys. Learn more HERE.

7. TRAP BINGO
Friday, February 23, 2018, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. 
So in an effort to redefine the “mix n mingle” atmosphere in New Orleans, NOLA KOOL KIDS have created what’s become their highly anticipated Trap Bingo event series. This isn’t your maw maw’s traditional game night! As always, the goal of their events is to facilitate the connection between the executive, mid-level, and intern, place them all in an “unbuttoned” eclectic environment surrounded by good music and food. Learn more HERE.

8. THE TIPPING POINT
Friday, February 23, 2018, 11:00 p.m. 
Created by DJ RQ Away it began with the idea of giving those seeking a good time an alternative to what he and his cohorts had come to know as a “regular” night out. With no lines, no cover, no enforced dress code, and a laid-back vibe, The Tipping Point has become a “to do” for good people looking for good music on Friday nights. 9. THE GALLERY:TALENT EXHIBIT OF MUSIC & COMDEY
Saturday, February 24, 2018, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Say it With Your Breasts Podcast is sponsoring its first event, THE GALLERY:TALENT EXHIBIT for performers, creatives, businesses, the media, and the public. Come out to support artists from Lafayette, Baton Rouge, NOLA and possibly book them for your next event! 10. PLATINUM COMEDY TOUR
Saturday, February 24, 2018, 8:00 p.m. 
Some of the biggest names in comedy are touching down in NOLA to bring you a hilarious Saturday evening. The Platinum Comedy Tour includes Deray Davis, Sommore, Mike Epps, Tony Rock, and Earthquake.
