SLIDE IN THEIR DMs (DIGITAL PROGRAM)
According to dictionary.com, “slide into the DMs” is online slang for sending someone a direct message on social media slickly and coolly, often for romantic purposes.

But how does a single college educated Black professional know which Instagram profiles to slide into?

Are they heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual?
How old are they?
Where do they live?
Do they have a degree?
And most importantly, are they single?

Enter Slide In Their DMs (#IDDCslideintheirDMs). Slide In Their DMs was created by I DON’T DO CLUBS Founder Genese Jamilah on November 12, 2015 to connect single Black professionals via Instagram direct message (DMs).

Once a quarter, Genese asks her followers and subscribers to submit their personal information (name, Instagram name, location, age, education level, & sexual preference) to the Slide In Their DMs’ database. From there, Genese combs through hundreds of submissions to post the most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.

For one day, Slide In Their DMs takes over I DON’T DO CLUBS’ Instagram feed. Followers like, comment, slide, and sometimes get married. That’s right, @whattrisheats met her husband through Slide In Their DMs! Read their story here.

SLIDE IN THEIR DMs IRL (EVENT)

59% of American Millennials are active Instagram users. So it’s only natural that single millennials would use this social media platform to meet potential partners. But how do you properly slide into DMs? Or better yet, how do you take an online conversation offline into the real world? I DON’T DO CLUBS’ founder @GeneseJamilah has gathered a few of her male influencer friends and a licensed therapist for an enlightening and often uncomfortable conversation on the challenges of dating during the social media age. After the debate, guests are encouraged to connect in IRL (in real life) over drinks and dancing.
