10 Nashville Events for Black Professionals This Week

1. ULYPMT JOIN WEEK 2018: EMPOWERED TO LEAD
Monday – Saturday, January 21-27, 2018
Urban League Young Professionals of Middle Tennessee (ULYPMT) will engage in a celebration of membership from January 20 through January 27. The theme for #JoinWeek2018 is: Empowered to Lead. ULYPMT will offer a variety of opportunities for young professionals to join the Urban League Movement and to participate in professional development, youth empowerment, and civic engagement activities. The week’s itinerary includes events such as Time Management Workshop, Organization Fair, ULYPMT Orientation & Brunch, and much more. Learn more HERE.

2. NASHVILLE SCENE HOT CHICKEN WEEK
Monday – Sunday, January 21-28, 2018
Nashville natives and transplants alike know that hot chicken is a treasured tradition and delicacy here in the city. If you somehow don’t know, then you will have the opportunity to try it out for yourself during Nashville Scene’s Hot Chicken Week. You can try long-time favorites like Bolton’s or newer restaurants like Gordon’s or Subculture. Each participating restaurant will be dishing up select $5 menu items all week, and you get to vote on who has the best! You can also enter the photo contest to win prizes just by sharing your photos on social media with the designated tag and hashtag. 3. WEIRDOS IN NASHVILLE
Wednesday, January 24, 2018, 8:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer duo, Louis York, has written and produced songs for artists such as Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus, and many others. The masterminds of Louis York are the vocalist Claude Kelly and the multi-instrumentalist Chuck Harmony, and they are proud to present to you their own original and eclectic music. Enjoy a night of live music as they perform in concert at The Back Corner. They will be joined by their Weirdo Workshop label mates The Shindellas, and Mike Hicks will be performing as a special guest. 4. WELCOME TO MY JAM SESSION: HIP HOP, BEAT FLIPS, REMIXES, TRAP, DJ, LIVE DRUMMER, LIVE BAND
Thursday, January 25, 2018, 8:00 p.m.
Jam Session is a music event showcasing the talents of local DJs, musicians, and producers. This event curated by Yobreezye features sets from some of the most dope DJs who will bring you a blend of classic hip-hop and beat flips when they spin. What makes it especially dope is that a live band will add an element that will make everybody jam with them. The band will make you dance! 5. BRUCE BRUCE AT ZANIES
Thursday – Sunday, January 25-28, 2018, various times
Bruce Bruce is one of the nation’s favorite stand-up comedians. You may have seen him on TV, in movies, performing on stages all over the country, or even hosting BET’s Comic View. Now you will have the opportunity to see him here in the city as he brings his stand-up show to Zanies Nashville. Enjoy a night of laughs and good times at a comedy show this weekend. 6. MUSIC AT THE FRIST: ARTE’MIS
Friday, January 26, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Sultry, soulful vocalist Tramaine Arte’mis and The Improv 7 Jazz Band will be performing for this event at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Fellowship with other professionals who enjoy the arts, and watch the band play live soul music for you. There will be food and beverages available for purchase. 7. NASHVILLE BLACK PROFESSIONALS FRIDAY NIGHT MIXER
Friday, January 26, 2018, 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Join the Nashville Black Professionals Social Networking Group this Friday night at Pastime for a mixer to end your workweek with some fun and networking. This “social networking” group hosts monthly mixers to give you an opportunity to meet and connect with other professionals in the city in a social setting. This is their first mixer for 2018, and it is the perfect event for you to get out and make new connections to expand your social circle. Learn more HERE. 

8. JUST PLAY GAME NIGHT
Friday, January 26, 2018, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Work hard; play hard. That’s the name of the game, right? Just Play Entertainment is hosting a game night at SOUTH Nashville on Demonbreun Street. Bring a team of 4, or join a team upon arrival. Teams compete to win the championship title in Hip Hop Charades, Hood Jeopardy, Giant UNO, LCR, Jumbo Truth or Dare blocks, and more. 9. BLUE LOUNGE PART III
Saturday, January 27, 2018, 8:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
The Music City Zetas host some of the best soirees in the city, so Blue Lounge Part III is guaranteed to be one of the hottest tickets in The Ville this weekend. It will be an evening of great music, atmosphere, and fun at Broadstone Germantown. This is a B.Y.O.B. event, so show up prepared to have a good time. 10. THE BOOM BAP NASHVILLE: 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY FT. JUST BLAZE
Saturday, January 27, 2018, 9:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.
Just like every month on the 4th Saturday, Nashville’s monthly hip-hop party is back this Saturday night with another installment. This one is highly anticipated because this is the 10-year celebration of The Boom Bap Nashville. Resident DJs will be spinning hip-hop hits and classics, and this month’s featured guest DJ is none other than Just Blaze! It all goes down at The Basement East, and early arrival is suggested.
